Mortality and Complication Data On Bariatric (Weight Loss) Surgery
6 months ago, my bestfriend (54 yrs old) died 3 days after her Gastric Bypass surgery. By the sound of it she could not breath, which I believe was caused by a blood clot traveling to her lungs. I'm not really sure if that was the real cause but anyway ... she is gone now. She was still in the hospital and even than could not be saved. I miss her more than I could express !
When you look at the data there is no increase in life expectancy with all weight loss surgery. If WLS were safe and free of complications I would not oppose it. Even minor surgery has risk but gastric bypass statistically is more dangerous than heart surgery. When surgeon tell you that fat people die because they are in bad health to begin with they are lying. People in need of heart surgery are far more at risk than WLS patients.
Heart surgery is done because people will die if they don't get it. The surgeons who do heart surgery are highly trained and in many cases heart surgeries are less complex than ghastly bypass. Any hack doctor with a little training is allowed to do ghastly bypass. Gastric bypass in all its forms is a complicated procedure.
Gastric bypass is unethical. Damaging of removing a healthy organ is wrong. Gastric by destroys a perfectly healthy digestive system.
My heart goes out to you and your freind's other loved ones for this tragic and needless loss.
